Resin Bird Baths Come in Many Styles and Prices

One of the more popular types of bird baths are resin bird baths.  One of the reasons for their popularity is that resin baths are light in weight (important if you've ever tried to move a stone or concrete bird bath), can be molded in a variety of shapes, and they tend to be low in cost as well.  Here is a look at some of the more popular resin bird baths.

A cheaper plastic could melt from the heat, but the resin will tolerate the heat well. In addition, the heating elements can accommodated by cavities molded into the basin of the bath.

The ability to mold allows a lot of creativity in the manufacture of bird baths. You see not only the addition of ornamental trim like leaves to the basin and the stand, but some more creative tricks like integrating the relief of a bird or other wild animals like squirrels on the side of the basin.

Solar Bird Baths - These are a combination of bird bath and fountain. It's best to have the water in a bird bath agitated or stirred occasionally. This keeps algae from forming, and avoids having the stagnant water act as a breeding ground for mosquitoes and the like. In addition, birds are attracted to the sound and site of moving water. But the need to wire up a fountain to a bird bath is a lot of work. Many manufacturers have gotten around this by offering solar bird baths. These have a small solar powered pump built into the bird bath itself, and a small photoelectric panel provides the power for the pump to run. Some have the ability to put the element away from the bird bath itself, so that you can put the bird bath in the shade but still have the pump powered buy the sun.
